The fact is that countries are in essentially laissez faire capitalistic competition with each other and the relative value= of their "legal tender" in which they collect taxes determines= their ability to buy anything on the global market . And in= democracies , the vote provides crude market feedback on their maintaining= its relative value . In a sense , a government has to manage its geographical monopoly with some measure of efficiency for its shares to maintain value .
