Sam has a serious point here . NYC has a ridiculous number of= police and national guard loitering all over the place . The police= compound closing off traffic thru Park Row and probably a square mile of streets= in downtown is stifling business in Chinatown to the extent that= the Chinese and Community Board 1 are starting to actively complain . Yet in all the cuts I have heard about including closing fire= houses , the police appear to be totally exempt . Arguing that they should be reined in rather than libraries is a= very defensible stand -- as long as it is acknowledged that the= library system which was originally a charitable function optimally should= revert to such funding . Library costs are a minor minor issue . Too many police with nothing to do are our greatest danger . Of course , Sam can blame no one but himself for failing to win= the support of his fellow LPQC members . He invites controversy . -- =A0Bob Armstrong -- http://CoSy.com -- 212-285-1864 Ultimate Computing Environment : =A0http://cosy.com/K/CoSy.htm A WTC vision : http://cosy.com/CoSy/ConicAllConnect/ =A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A02003/04/18 7:47:24 PM
